This is a large aquarium and amusement park in Japan, that I think, is pretty popular among the Japanese. Remember this guy??
He's one of the mascots in the park!
To get to the aquarium, it was necessary to walk through the amusement park section. It was a little cold for us to play outside, so we opted to just see the animals. But there were some pretty awesome rides, including this...The Blue Fall. It drops 107 meters in like 3 seconds.
We also saw some pelicans outside the aquarium...
Our first stop was Dolphin Fantasy...home to bottle nose dolphins and a beluga whale.
I felt really bad for the beluga because his space was so small and I felt like the Japanese were taunting him. They obviously thought it was cool that he was interacting with them, but he was only doing that because they were letting their kids tap on the glass. It seems to me that doing that is a big "no, no" in the U.S.
Our next stop was the Aqua Museum, which is actually a typical aquarium, but with some old favorites and some new and interesting fish...
Sharks...
Cuttlefish (Tim ate this when we had sushi, we didn't know this is what it was!)...
Sea Turtles...
Giant Japanese Sea Crabs (they're like 5 feet long)...
And we got to see a marine show! It was ok that we didn't understand a word, the show was still entertaining!
My favorite tricks involved the trainers diving with the animals and coming up on their noses...
After the show, we headed to the final part of the aquarium, Fureai Lagoon, which turned out to be an aqua petting zoo. I'm not a big fan of touching marine life, so we just watched a bit and headed out. We ended our day at the outlet mall and dinner at our favorite Indian restaurant!
