What was the reason for this jaunt around the world? Well, last Saturday we hopped on a bus to pick up Laurie from Narita airport for her weeklong visitation.
A side story about our awesome planning skills: Without looking at her arrival time, we reserved seats on the 2:30 shuttle to the airport, putting us at the airport between 4 and 4:30...too bad she was arriving at 3:30. Whoops! So we darted off the bus, ran down three flights of escalators and while I planted myself at the arrival gate, Tim scoured the crowd for his sister. I was relieved when, after about 10 minutes, people started arriving in Husky (the only time that'll be a relief) and Mariner's gear. We hadn't missed her!! :-)
Once we got on the trains, and safely back to the apartment, we had a surprise waiting for her...
A belated birthday party!
The next morning, we got up bright and early and traveled to the Shin-Yokohama station. We decided to visit the Raumen Museum, basically a giant raumen food court decorated like old-school Japan.
We ate at the place on the right because the wait was only about 10 minutes. Some of the other places had waits in the 20-30 minute range! Each restaurant could sit about 20 people at a time and then they ate quickly. People do not mess around with their raumen here. We did have to order from a vending machine though...
which had no english! We guessed by the pictures and hoped whatever we got tasted good. Thankfully, we were all satisfied with our choices.
After eating our delicious raumen, we headed back to the train station and found something we just couldn't resist...
a shuttle to IKEA! Having never been to an Ikea while abroad, we couldn't pass up the opportunity for some Swedish love. :-) The experience was incredibly humorous, but it definitely gave me a whole new love for the superstore. Their clever storage solutions and what-not are incredibly effective in the small Japanese homes. And the store was PACKED! We ended up taking a break in the store restaurant with a tray of desserts. Delicious...
Since we spent so much time touring/admiring the Swedes, we had to head home so Tim could get to bed early for work the next day. We ended our day with a visit to Mexico, via Nachos...
Our next stops: Italy, Spain, and much more Japan

You are becoming so cosmopolitan! Sounds like it was a lot of fun to show Laurie around. We hope to see some gorgeous tulips on our way to Anacortes today - before the concert.

Sounds like you had a great time with Laurie and "traveling" around the world together. I think traveling around the world with food and stores is a great way to do it. Maybe I can see a lot of great places too. :-) Keep having fun!
